Woolacombe School was recognised by Her Majestys Inspectorate as being in the top percentage of successful primary schools that offered high academic results alongside a very broad and a balanced curriculum in all areas and achieving high standards in these too.

To Quote The Report

The schools in this survey achieve what many others claim is not possible. They have high standards in English, mathematics and science, while also giving a strong emphasis to the humanities, physical education and the arts.

The richness of the curriculum in these schools, and, in particular, their achievements in the arts, contributed strongly to the development of pupil's imagination and the creative use of media and materials. The growth of pupils' self-confidence which these achievements inspired, helped them to tackle more challenging work and develop a positive attitude towards school.

In all the schools in the survey the lasting impressions were of:

Pride in the pupils' achievement and a wish to celebrate them.

The clear sense of purpose and direction in the school's work.

A strong sense of team work among the staff, based on mutual support and collaboration.

The high quality of the environment in every part of the school, including the grounds.

The report stated what our school believes:

Each pupil is entitled to receive the best education possible and achieve the highest standards.

The curriculum should meet pupils' individual needs

Pupils learn best from a broad and challenging curriculum

The curriculum should involve first-hand experience and be taught in ways which make sense to the pupils

Achievement in a range of subjects across the curriculum, including science, humanities and the arts, improve pupils' confidence and self-esteem, enabling them to tackle more challenging work and develop a positive attitude towards school

Improving pupils' confidence and self-esteem has a positive effect upon their attainment in core subjects Back to top
